A passion for cars is the backbone of the Annual Springthorpe Car Show. It was a few local residents in the Springthorpe Estate in Macleod who entertained the idea of hosting a car show… fast-forward 8 years later and the show has grown annually.
The event primarily entertains with the variety of cars on display, from Veteran (pre 1905) to Classic but also unique modern vehicles and exotica. There is also the occasional vintage Fire truck and police car that comes along. Not only is there a variety in the era’s of vehicles but also the demographics The show regularly sees cars from all parts of the world; British, German, Japanese, American, Italian, American and Australian. We typically see the Rolls Royce Owners Club, the MG Car Club Victoria, Club Audi Victoria and many more. We also see the participation of local businesses showing off their own creations.
The event is held in the luscious Springthorpe Estate; Macleod which is a North Eastern Suburb of Melbourne, VIC. It makes clever use of the large open park and its amenities; seating, playground for young visitors and parking. The park is surrounded by 300 year old gum trees, 100 year old palm trees, and beautiful heritage buildings erected in the early 1900’s. Formerly known as the Mont Park Asylum, this estate has seen many uses over the past century (farm land, hospital, asylum, medical research and now an award-winning urban development) and now is part of local history.
It also has the participation of the Big Shot Coffee Van which is a beautifully restored 1969 Citreon HY Van. It offers beverages and small snacks. For larger meals we have the new Five Souls Café open right across the road. They offer a dine-in experience but also takeaway food and plenty of beverages. We will have portable toilets on site.
New to the show will be the Grand Concert Street Organ which will be playing music throughout the day. It will be quite a marvel to behold.
Even more exciting is the return of the Ivanhoe Photographic Society who enhanced the lovely atmosphere with models dressed up for the occasion. Music, models dressed up in various eras and an amazing variety of cars!
It is worth noting that this is a free event. There is an optional donation which goes towards the Jellis Craig foundation which supports headspace and very special kids.
